Distress tolerance skills teach individuals how to tolerate distressing situations without resorting to harmful behaviours. This can help prevent impulsive and self-destructive behaviours.
In addition to skills training, DBT also includes individual therapy sessions and phone coaching between sessions to help individuals apply the skills they have learned in real-life situations.
